Life Skills Trainer Position Details

Life Skills Trainers (called Independent Living Skills, or ILS Trainers) provide one-on-one daily living training to individuals with disabilities as they work towards their personal goals and overall independence. Training can range from teaching cooking skills to a young adult who lives with their parents, to providing supervision and conflict resolution between roommates, to helping a senior manage their medication.

This job is a part-time or full time position, $17-$20/hr. Because our clients need support at different times, weekday, evening and weekend shifts are available. You must be available Tuesday mornings 8:30-10am (mandatory staff meeting). Location will vary between the ICS office, client homes and other sites in Marin County.

  • Train clients around their goals, such as transportation training, domestic skills, socialization, financial skills, personal health and hygiene

  • Keep detailed progress notes after each session and update the client's file on the computer

  • Complete and submit all forms on time, including monthly and annual reports

  • Attend case conferences with clients, families and other agencies they work with if necessary

  • Attend staff meetings to discuss current cases and brainstorm creative solutions to challenges

  • Previous experience with teaching or case management work 

  • Basic computer literacy, specifically with Gmail and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Valid California driver's license with proof of insurance required, background check will be conducted
