Celebrating disability culture this summer!

Reflections on the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act:

July 26th marked the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is the biggest and most important piece of disability legislation in the United States. Disability Pride month takes place in July to honor this landmark moment.

During this day of celebration, disabled people in the United States reflected on the gains of the disability rights movement and the work ahead to preserve civil rights, access to crucial safety net services and full inclusion in our communities.

Anita Cameron is a disabled activist that said “I’m grateful for the ADA. I pushed for it; I fought for it; I went to jail for it. But the ADA is the floor. It’s not the ceiling.”

With reflecting on the work to be done to fight for the rights of people with disabilities, ICS would like to invite our friends to check out the work of amazing disability justice activists, artists and organizations that are leading the way in amplifying the voices of people with disabilities in order to assure that the wins from the ADA are a starting point, not the final destination.
