ABOUT THE JOB

Living Skills Instructors provide one-on-one support to individuals with disabilities as they work toward personal goals, educational success, employment readiness, and greater independence throughout Marin County.

Support may include:

  • Cooking, household tasks, and self-care

  • Organization, daily routines, and school readiness

  • School attendance, engagement, and transitions

  • Conflict resolution with roommates or peers

  • Transportation and community connections

  • Healthy routines, exercise, and social activities

Each day is different. You might start at 9 a.m. in the office checking emails before meeting a client in the community, or begin at home completing documentation or supporting a client via Zoom. Later, you may meet a client in the office or support them in a class at College of Marin. You will independently manage your schedule while staying connected with your clients and the ICS team through both in-person and Zoom meetings.

This position offers part-time or full-time hours, with pay ranging from $22–$23.50 per hour, depending on experience and caseload. Shifts are generally 8 hours long, scheduled within the 9 a.m.–7 p.m. window, with both weekday and weekend shifts available. Work takes place at locations throughout Marin County. Specific meeting times and locations are based on each client’s goals, needs, and preferences.

DUTIES

  • Partner with clients to work toward goals related to independent living, education, transportation, domestic skills, socialization, financial skills, personal health, hygiene, and community engagement

  • Provide in-home, community-based, and educational setting support tailored to individual needs

  • Support skill development related to school participation, organization, time management, and self-advocacy

  • Independently manage a personal weekly Google Calendar, including scheduling and keeping track of client meetings in person, in the field, and through Zoom

  • Maintain an accurate daily calendar that reflects client sessions, meetings, travel, and other work responsibilities

  • Track daily work hours and maintain an accurate weekly timecard

  • Track mileage and other work-related expenses and submit reimbursement documentation accurately and on time

  • Communicate with clients, families, and team members regarding scheduling, cancellations, and changes to appointments

  • Keep detailed progress notes after each session and maintain accurate digital records

  • Attend meetings with clients, families, schools, and collaborating agencies

  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss cases and brainstorm creative solutions

  • Model professionalism, healthy boundaries, and person-centered support

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic computer literacy and comfort using Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Google Docs

  • Ability to use Zoom to schedule, join, and participate in virtual meetings

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to independently manage a weekly work calendar

  • Ability to accurately track daily work hours, maintain a weekly timecard, and keep track of mileage and work-related expenses

  • Ability to independently schedule and coordinate in-person, community-based, and virtual client meetings

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Valid identification (Real ID, driver’s license, or passport) required

  • A background check will be conducted

The interview process for this position includes a phone screening, an in person interview, and a 30 minute computer-based skills assessment. The skills assessment will evaluate basic technology and organizational skills related to the position.
